We have started learning about patterning. Students will be learning about increasing and decreasing patterns. We will also be focusing on identifying and stating the pattern rule.

We have no started working on Perimeter. Perimeter is the shortest distance around a shape or object. To find the perimeter of a polygon, simply add all of the side lengths together.

Measurement

We have just started measurement. In this unit, we will be exploring conversions using the metric system, telling time and elapsed time, perimeter, area, and much more. We have already discussed using the appropriate unit to measure different distances, lengths, capacities, and mass.

When moving to the left on the staircase, you will divide by 10 for each step you move (or move the decimal to the left one time). When moving to the right on the staircase, you will multiply by 10 for each step you move (or move the decimal the right one time).

Moving left produces a smaller number (ex: 20mm = 2cm).

Moving right produces a larger number (ex: 5 m = 500 cm).

We have just been introduced to Decimals. We are exploring tenths and hundredths. Decimals represent parts of a whole. The two images show 3 tenths and 3 hundredths.
